Does community solar cost anything?

Nope! There are no costs to join or cancel, and there are no solar panels to buy or install. You are still paying for the energy you consume--but at a discount--generating only savings and no additional costs.

There are zero fees or additional costs–only money saved. There are no fees to join, no fees to cancel, no paying for solar panels or repairs–nothing except real dollar credits on your utility bill for the clean energy that was produced by your share of the solar farm (which are discounted for you, the subscriber).

How your bill looks will depend on whether or not your state offers consolidated billing. States like New York allow utilities to consolidate everything on one bill so subscribers don't need to get a different invoice from Neighborhood Sun or provide us with a payment method.

If your state doesn't yet support consolidated billing, you will continue to receive a bill from your utility, though the total cost owed to your utility will be lowered by your solar credits. You then get an invoice from Neighborhood Sun to for the cost of the solar credits you received at a discount. You can cancel your subscription at any time, though processing time will vary depending on your utility.

We suggest you review your community solar agreement for details on how much your community solar credits will be discounted, and the cancellation policy. Some agreements request you provide 60 or more days notice to cancel.
