How does the billing cycle work for community solar if Potomac Edison/First Energy (PEFE) is my utility provider?

This article explains the timeline of the billing cycle for community solar subscribers in the Potomac Edison/First Energy (PEFE) utility region.

  1. Your solar farm generates electricity throughout the month.
  2. This electricity flows onto the utility grid as clean, local energy, which makes the overall energy mix cleaner!
  3. At the end of the month, the utility company reads the meter at the solar farm to see how much total energy was generated.
  4. Each customer receives the dollar amount of the energy generated by their share in the form of solar credits-- or a discount off of your electric bill.
  5. Your electrical charges should be reduced by the solar credits, but you still need to pay your utility company taxes and fees for getting that electricity to you!
  6. Your utility company tells us how much you received in solar credits and we bill you for these credits minus your contracted discount.
  7. You are guaranteed to save a minimum of 5% off of your total utility charges per month-- please ask us how much you are saving on your monthly electric charges!
