This article explains the timeline of the billing cycle for community solar subscribers in the PEPCO utility region.
Your local solar farm generates renewable electricity throughout the month.
When this renewable electricity is added to the utility grid as clean (low-carbon), local energy, it directly displaces harmful fossil fuels that pollute our air and water, making the overall energy mix cleaner. By increasing demand for clean energy through your community solar subscription, you're helping to "green" our grid, one community at a time.
At the end of the month, the utility company reads the meter at the solar farm to see how much total energy was generated.
Each customer receives the dollar amount of the energy generated by their share in the form of solar credits-- or a discount off of your electric bill.
Your utility company tells us how much you received in solar credits and we bill you for these credits minus your contracted discount. You then pay your utility provider the remaining cost.
You are guaranteed to save a minimum of 5% off of your total utility charges per month-- please ask us how much you are saving on your monthly electric charges! Your electrical charges are reduced by the solar credits, but you still need to pay your utility company taxes and fees for getting that electricity to you!
