How is community solar different from rooftop solar?

Unlike rooftop solar, there are no fees to join or cancel, and no panels to buy or install on your roof or property--only cost-savings!

Community solar allows anyone who pays an electricity bill to access the benefits of solar energy, rather than just the select few who can install their own rooftop panels.

It works more like a subscription service, so you subscribe with zero fees to get a share of the solar energy generated by a local solar farm each month. The benefit is that you receive a discount on the energy generated from your share. That way you can save money while supporting solar energy, all without having to buy your own panels.

Community Solar

  • Shared solar farm: You invest in a portion of a larger solar farm located within your community.
  • No equipment on your roof: There's no need for panels or installation on your property.
  • Electricity credits: The solar energy generated by your share offsets a portion of your monthly electricity bill.
  • Ideal for renters: Anyone can participate, regardless of homeownership.
  • Lower upfront costs: There's no significant upfront investment required.

Rooftop Solar

  • Individual solar panels: Solar panels are installed on your home's roof.
  • On-site electricity generation: The generated electricity powers your home directly.
  • Potential for net metering: Excess energy can be sold back to the grid for credits.
  • Homeownership is often required: While there are lease options, ownership is common.
  • Higher upfront costs: Solar panel installation and equipment can be expensive.
