If I'm a Maryland or a D.C. subscriber, what are my options for cancellation?

If you're subscribed to a community solar farm in Maryland or Washington D.C., you can easily cancel via our online form at any time. Read more below for more details about our cancellation policy.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Please note: Since you receive your Neighborhood Sun invoice only after you see the discounted solar credits on your monthly electric utility bill, your invoice typically reflects the credits from the previous month. Due to this billing cycle structure, if you cancel today, you will still see your solar credits on this month's utility bill and be invoiced for these credits next month (still at a discounted rate compared to your utility provider).

What happens after I cancel my subscription?

In order to cancel your community solar subscription, your enrollment status must be changed with us (your community solar provider) as well as your electric utility company (Baltimore Gas & Electric, PEPCO, or Potomac Edison).

When you contact us to cancel your subscription, we ensure that your cancellation is processed on our end. Then, we directly notify your utility company of changes to your account (so you don't have to), and they remove you from the list of customers who should receive solar credits. Once your utility company processes this request, you will then stop receiving solar credits.

Please note: This process can take anywhere between 2-4 weeks, depending on the deadline that each utility company follows for making account changes.

Are there any cancellation fees?

Neighborhood Sun never charges a cancellation fee, but in some rare cases, our solar developers have different policies for cancellation fees and waiting periods. We strongly recommend that you read the terms of your community solar contract to be sure or you can consult one of our customer care specialists to have them check for you.

When will I stop being billed for discounted community solar credits?

Due to the way the billing cycles work and how often solar farms update their subscriber information, you will likely have to pay 1 or 2 additional invoices while your cancellation is being processed, depending on the date your request was submitted. Until your cancellation goes through (potentially 1 or 2 months after you request it), you will continue receiving discounted solar credits that help you save money at no cost.
